Graphene-enhanced bedsheets run a successful crowdfunding campaign

EDASI, developed of graphene-enhanced bed-sheets is running a crowdfunding campaign to support its product launch. The campaign is very successful, having raised over $275,000 as of the time of writing (with 8 days to go).

Directa Plus' graphene coatings used in two collections displayed at the Milan Design Week

Directa Plus has announced that its new G+ graphene coatings are being used in two collections at the Milan Design Week. During the event, designers, architects, creatives, producers and brands in furniture and upholstery and interior design show their new products and creations.

The graphene product is being displayed by two Italian companies: Plinio il Giovane, a central Milan based producer of high-end furniture and upholstery, and Danese Milano, a subsidiary of lighting company Artemide. The G+ coating has been used for Plinio il Giovane’s chairs and sofas and Danese Milano’s desk pad.

Haydale's graphene inks used in garments worn by British athletes at the Tokyo Olympic Games

Haydale has announced that, following its announcement of positive prototype testing on 3rd March 2020, its range of advanced wearable technology - integrated into garments for elite athletes - was used in Tokyo by British athletes, including top medal winning athletes.

The garments generate heat using Haydale's printed functionalized graphene ink and incorporate electronic circuitry to produce temperature regulated panels. The plan is to use them at future international competitions, and subsequently to make them available commercially to other professional sports.

Graphene-based sensor can help detect when firefighters’ protective clothing is no longer safe

A University of Alberta researcher is working with Canada-based Davey Textile Solutions and other industry partners to reduce the risk of faulty protective gear used by firefighters, with a graphene-based sensor that can detect the gradual breakdown in garments from exposure to heat, moisture and ultraviolet (UV) light.

These fibers age silently and lose their performance, so this sensor technology is a breakthrough in terms of safety for workers exposed to heat and flame, said clothing and textiles scientist Patricia Dolez, the project’s lead researcher and an assistant professor in the U of A Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES).

Cyclist wins Olympic silver medal in graphene-enhanced shirt by Directa Plus

Annemiek van Vleuten of the Dutch Cycling Team recently won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the road race, wearing a shirt printed with Directa Plus' graphene-enhanced Thermal Planar Circuit technology.

The shirts for the Dutch National Cycling Team used a high performance print made using Directa Plus' sustainable G+ graphene. TPC absorbs the heat produced by the body, distributing it inside the garment and dissipating it by interacting with the surrounding environment.

Directa Plus says new research supports the use of its graphene nano-materials in COVID face masks

Directa Plus recently stated that a research paper has been published in the journal iScience, supporting the use of its ‘functionalized’ graphene as an antimicrobial material in face masks.

The peer-reviewed paper said the company's G+ nanomaterials and those from graphene oxide provide a critical opportunity to significantly increase face mask efficacy.

Korean fiber maker Huvis announces mass-production of graphene fibers

A leading Korean fiber producer called Huvis has reportedly begun to mass-produce graphene fibers.

The Company said that since graphene has such poor dispersibility, synthesis with PET (polyester) polymer is not considered easy. As a result, according to Huvis, most of the graphene fibers developed so far have either substandard graphene content, or the fiber is coated with a graphene material - which Huvis says makes them inferior (and is the reason that the graphene fibers available in the market are black or gray).

Clothing brand 878 developed a graphene-enhanced smart sailing jacket

High-performance clothing brand 878 developed a new smart sailing jacket, called Project One. The jacket utilizes graphene-enhanced materials to enable high flexibility and weatherproofing while still being extremely lightweight.

The jacket also features a small flexible E Ink display produced by Plastic Logic. The display is connected to your boat's systems via Bluetooth to show navigational and other kinds of information.

Researchers demonstrate reversible fusion and fission of graphene oxide–based fibers

Researchers from Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Monash University have developed a way to bind multiple strands of graphene oxide together, creating a process that could prove useful in manufacturing complex architectures.

In recent years, materials scientists have been exploring the possibility of making products using total or partial self-assembly as a way to produce them faster or at less cost. In biological systems where two materials self-assemble into a third material, scientists describe this as a fusion process. Accordingly, when a single material spontaneously separates into two or more other materials, they refer to it as a fission process. In this new work, the researchers have developed a technique for creating graphene-oxide-based yarn that exploits both processes.

Haydale to provide HT200 Plasma Reactor to U.S-based 401 Tech Bridge

Haydale has announced that it has partnered with U.S-based 401 Tech Bridge to provide a HT200 Plasma Reactor and advanced materials support for their innovation ecosystem.

The HT200 Plasma Reactor will be utilized in the 401 Tech Bridge Advanced Materials and Technology Center, managed by the University of Rhode Island (URI), to support material commercialization efforts of Graphene Composites and other local composites and textiles-based businesses. This adds to 401 Tech Bridge's capability supporting its ambition to accelerate the adoption of new materials and support companies' efforts in developing new products.
