AGM's customer Infinity Wax launches second graphene-enhanced product

Applied Graphene Materials has announced that its customer, Infinity Wax, a major manufacturer of car care products in Europe, has launched a second car care product enhanced with the Company's graphene technology. Using AGM's Genable graphene nanoplatelet dispersions, Infinity Wax has launched Graphene Wax, a new generation of high performance car wax.

A few months ago, in September 2020, the same companies joined to launch a graphene-enhanced car polish. Now, Infinity Wax reported that it launched the new Graphene Wax following the success of its graphene-enhanced car polish. The new product offers outstanding water beading and sheeting properties as a result of increased hydrophobicity, resulting in long term paint protection. Graphene Wax makes it easy to wipe away dirt, enabling car owners to achieve a professional wax shine.

The European Commission announces a €20 million investment in a new plant for graphene electronics

The European Commission (EC) has announced a €20 million investment in the next generation of electronics and semiconductors. The 2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL) was officially launched as the first graphene foundry to integrate graphene and layered materials into semiconductor platforms. The new project aims to keep Europe at the forefront of this technological revolution.

Born within the EU-funded project, the Graphene Flagship, the 2D-EPL will cover the entire value chain, from tool producers and chemical and material providers to manufacturing lines. This collaborative project will integrate several Graphene Flagship members to pioneer the fabrication of new prototype electronics, photonic devices and sensors integrating graphene and layered materials.

High-performance graphene-based biosensors to help detect blood disorders

Scientists in Germany and Korea took Aptamer-based electrochemical biosensors, known for their high sensitivity and low detection limit, to the next level in their new label-free design based on laser-induced graphene, thus paving the way for their easy application in point-of-care diagnostics.

Thrombin is an enzyme that plays a vital role in wound healing by helping retain blood within the damaged blood vessel—a process known as hemostasis. What is more interesting to biologists, however, is that thrombin is found in increased concentrations under abnormal conditions, and thus can be used to diagnose and monitor blood disorders and malignancies. Thus, it is crucial to detect even minute concentrations of thrombin in the blood. The team of researchers has now devised a novel biosensor for accurately detecting minute amounts of thrombin in the blood, that holds a potential to revolutionize the field of blood disorder diagnostics.

GAC Group announces that its Aion V, sporting a graphene battery, will start production in September 2021

GAC Group recently announced "a major achievement in battery technology". GAC stated that it achieved breakthrough progress with its graphene-based super-fast-charging battery and has now entered the phase of actual vehicle testing. Aion V, the first vehicle to be equipped with the battery, is undergoing winter testing and is initially scheduled for mass production in September this year.

In May 2020, GAC announced its plan to mass produce graphene-enhanced battery for EVs by the end of 2020, and in September 2020, GAC announced setting up a unit that specializes in graphene that has begun research and development of fast-charging technology for electric vehicles. In November 2020, GAC stated that it expects to test its battery in production vehicles by the end of 2020, however - whether it can eventually be put into mass production will have to await the results of real-vehicle testing. It appears that now, GAC has decided to go forward with its graphene batteries, launching the Aion V in les than a year (if all will go according to its plans).

Researchers create tunable superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

When two sheets of graphene are stacked atop each other at just the right angle, the layered structure morphs into an unconventional superconductor, allowing electric currents to pass through without resistance or wasted energy. This magic-angle transformation in bilayer graphene was observed for the first time in 2018 in the group of Pablo Jarillo-Herrero at MIT. Since then, scientists have searched for other materials that can be similarly twisted into superconductivity, but for the most part, no other twisted material has exhibited superconductivity other than the original twisted bilayer graphene.

In a recent paper, Jarillo-Herrero and his group reported observing superconductivity in a sandwich of three graphene sheets, the middle layer of which is twisted at a new angle with respect to the outer layers. This new trilayer configuration reportedly exhibits superconductivity that is more robust than its bilayer counterpart.
