Black Swan Graphene announced development agreement between NERD and Roger Bullivant

Black Swan Graphene has announced that its partner, Nationwide Engineering Research and Development ("NERD"), the maker of Concretene, a graphene-enhanced concrete admixture ("Concretene"), has executed a development agreement with Roger Bullivant Limited. Roger Bullivant is part of Soletanche Bachy, a foundations company and part of VINCI, the French construction, infrastructure and energy group of companies with €60 billion in annual revenue. The agreement aims to begin commercial deliveries in Q4 of 2024.

Support for the project from Roger Bullivant includes a proposal for establishment of a Concretene pilot manufacturing plant at its headquarters in the United Kingdom. This pilot manufacturing plant should enable NERD to prove the viability of its manufacturing proposition towards much wider scale-up and roll-out to the United Kingdom and international concrete industry.

Researchers use synthesized complex-frequency waves for ultrasensitive molecular sensing

Researchers at the University of Hong Kong, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology in Beijing, Harvard University and the University of Stuttgart have advanced the field of molecular sensing by developing a novel method to improve the sensitivity of surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA). SEIRA uses plasmonic nanostructures to amplify the infrared signals of molecules adsorbed on their surface. Graphene is a particularly promising material for SEIRA because of its high sensitivity and tunability. However, the interaction between graphene and molecules is weakened by intrinsic molecular damping.

The new approach employs synthesized complex-frequency waves (CFW) to amplify the molecular signals detected by graphene-based sensors by at least an order of magnitude. It also applies to molecular sensing in different phases.

Researchers succeed in creating graphene-based functional semiconductor

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology and China's Tianjin University have created a novel functional semiconductor made from graphene, potentially opening the door to various next-gen electronics. 

 

This discovery comes at a time when silicon, the material from which nearly all modern electronics are made, is reaching its limit in the face of increasingly faster computing and smaller electronic devices. The semiconductor made from graphene is compatible with conventional microelectronics processing methods – a necessity for any viable alternative to silicon.
