Applications are invited for a one year Postdoctoral Research Associate position, to work on a TSB-funded project focusing on the design of graphene-based coatings, within the groups of Dr Emiliano Bilotti and Dr Julien Gautrot.
This project aims to develop a novel approach for the stabilisation of graphene to address these issues and improve the processing of graphene without impairing its exceptional heat and electrical conduction and anti-corrosion properties. The system developed will have a considerable impact on the application of graphene to a wide range of technologies.
In collaboration with FormFormForm Ltd., the company behind the range of silicone-based resins called Sugru, we will explore the use of these materials to generate heat and electrically conductive silicone based matrices, as well as the application of such composites as anti-corrosion coatings. Achieving high performance for such flexible silicone-based composites, thanks to the exceptional properties of graphene, could open up a wide range of applications for such silicone-based materials. Hence we will explore the use of this new technology to address some of the current challenges in the manufacturing industry.
Applicants should have, or be about to gain, a PhD or equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent subjects. Experience in the fields polymer nanocomposites, polymer chemistry is required and preferably graphene-based nano-materials (including carbon-based materials).
The post is full time and fixed term for 12 months. The project, funded by TSB, is expected to start no later than 1st October 2015.
Starting salary will be in the range of£29,317 to £35,319 per annum inclusive, depending on experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a defined benefit pension scheme.
