Skeleton Technologies, European developer of graphene-based supercapacitors announced that it has signed a large-scale contract with Medcom to deploy its supercapacitors for Warsaw's Tram network.
Skeletons supercapacitor systems are situated onboard trams and provide energy savings by recuperating braking energy and reusing it for acceleration - and significantly decreasing the total energy consumption significantly. The system also protects the grid infrastructure as it shaves power peaks.
In 2019, a study by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center in Philadelphia and at the University of Texas at Arlington found that the Skeleton supercapacitors far outperformed other supercapacitors from Maxwell, Ioxus and JM Energy. Graphene was mentioned as the probable cause for this efficiency.
In 2019 Skeleton Technologies also announced a â¬25 million investment in its plant located in the German state of Saxony as the company is increasing its R&D efforts and scaling up its production capacity.
