SaltX Technology, a Swedish energy storage company, recently announced that it has passed the first milestone in the strategic development project together with Ahlstrom-Munksjö, a global manufacturer of fiber-based materials.

Over the last six months, the companies have reportedly been able to verify an industrial manufacturing method to coat graphene on paper and integrate it with SaltX patented nano-coated salt for its large-scale energy storage solution. The graphene manufacturer 2D fab participates in the project and supplies the graphene. The companies are now initiating production runs in Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s pilot line.

Ionic Industries has signed an LOI with US-based Nanothings for development of graphene supercapacitors for IoT applications. The two companies will work together to develop an energy storage solution that will enable a new generation of IoT tracking technologies based on Nanothings’ proprietary NanoTag devices.

The terms of the LOI cover a range of details about how the technology will be developed and how it might be commercialized jointly.

A KAIST research team has developed a graphene-based hybrid storage device with power density 100 times faster than conventional batteries, allowing it to be charged within a few seconds. The team states that it could be suitable for small portable electronic devices.

The researchers developed an aqueous hybrid capacitor (AHC) that boasts high energy density, high power, and excellent cycle stability by synthesizing two types of porous metal oxide nanoclusters on graphene to create positive and negative electrodes for AHCs.

Bedimensional has received €18 million to promote their main goal – discover new applications of graphene and related materials in consumer products. The investment was made by Italian 'Pellan Group,' specialized in groundbreaking technical materials.

Bedimensional is an Associated Member of the Graphene Flagship, and is part of a network of companies associated to the Graphene Flagship developing new solutions in the field of composites for energy harvest and storage, such as batteries, super capacitors and solar cells, as well as foster the development of new composite materials, some of which are already available on the market.

Paragraf, the UK-based graphene technology development company, has announced the opening of an R&D facility in Cambridge. This follows the May 2018 announcement regarding seed investment of £2.9 million. The new site represents a turning point for graphene-based technologies, according to Paragraf, which it hopes will drive large-scale development of mass-market, graphene-based electronic devices.

Paragraf says its proprietary production technique overcomes the quality, contamination and reproducibility barriers faced by other graphene production methods. The customized equipment at the Cambridge facility will also allow Paragraf to convert its laboratory research into novel products, including next generation sensors, solid state electronics and energy storage cells.

Sweden-based Graphmatech develops and produces novel graphene-based nanocomposite materials, under the Aros Graphene brand. The company recently secured an investment from ABB and Walerud Ventures, and the company's CFO, Bjorn Lindh, was kind enough to answer a few questions we had to him.

Q: Thank you for your time Bjorn. Can you give us a short introduction to Graphmatech's Aros Graphene materials, and how it differs from other graphene materials on the market?

Graphmatech has invented the novel material, Aros Graphene that keeps most of graphene's features, while making it easy to use in large industrial scales by preventing agglomeration, which is a key challenge for the use of graphene. Aros graphene is produced in powder form and can be used as additive, as coating or even in 3D-printing. The market introduction and launch of first products, filaments and thermal paste, will be introduced to the market in 2019.
