First Graphene and Kainos Innovation receive UK Government grant for route to green hydrogen and battery grade materials
First Graphene, in collaboration with Kainos Innovation, has been awarded a grant by the UK Government to progress the development of an innovative route to green hydrogen and battery grade materials.
The grant was awarded by Innovate UK under the UK’s Sustainable Innovation fund for the progression of unique process technology invented and patented by Kainos Innovation which directly converts low-cost hydrocarbon feedstocks to graphene materials and hydrogen gas. The technology requires the expertise of First Graphene to prototype manufacturing scale-up and commercial application development.
First Graphene to work with TRP2 on commercialization of fire-retardant graphene-based coating
First Graphene (FGR) has announced that it has agreed with TPR2 and its Australian distributor Exfire to work on the commercialization of a fire retardant coating utilizing FGR’s PureGRAPH.
First Graphene holds the global licensing rights to a graphene-based fire-retardant coating from the University of Adelaide (UoA). Development of the FireStop product has been conducted over a three-year period in collaboration with the UoA, as part of the Company’s participation as a Tier-1 member of the ARC Research Hub for Graphene Enabled Industry Transformation. Patents have progressed to National Phase and are in the examination phase in Australia, Europe and the United States of America.
First Graphene to collaborate with M&I Materials on development of graphene-enhanced products
Graphene raw materials supplier First Graphene and UK-based specialist materials manufacturer M&I Materials have agreed to collaborate to develop an extended range of graphene-enhanced products.
Both companies are partners at Manchester’s Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre (GEIC), a facility dedicated to the commercialization of graphene. The GEIC has played a big part in enabling this collaboration and has benefited both parties in terms of the close working relationship at the same location and the extensive facilities and support available on site.
First Graphene announces successful trials with HDPE for oceanic farming
In May, First Graphene announced it is collaborating with Hexcyl to develop PureGRAPH-enhanced HDPE materials for use in Hexcyl’s range of oyster baskets and long-line farming systems. Now, First Graphene updated on successful trial results from the application of PureGRAPH graphene to these oyster baskets with the South Australian shellfish aquaculture manufacturer Hexcyl Systems.
Using FGR’s PureGRAPH products, the High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) reportedly showed improvements in strength, wear resistance and longevity.
First Graphene collaborates with the University of Warwick on graphene-enhanced thermoplastics
First Graphene has announced a collaboration with the University of Warwick on a project to unlock the potential of graphene in thermoplastic systems.
First Graphene has secured an award under the Warwick Collaborative Post Graduate Research Scholarship Scheme, in conjunction with the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). WMG has established a successful model for collaboration between academia and the private and public sectors and has very strong links with world-leading industrial partners such as Jaguar Land Rover, who have located their advanced research group at the WMG campus.
First Graphene to supply PureGRAPH to Aquatic Leisure Technologies swimming pools
First Graphene (FGR) has entered an agreement with Aquatic Leisure Technologies (ALT) to supply PureGRAPH products over the next two years. ALT is an Australian family business, considered an industry leader in pool innovations.
Incorporating First Graphene's PureGRAPH graphene powders into the new range of pools will enable a brand new construction process to provide the next generation of fibreglass pool technology.
planarTECH IDEATI graphene mask - hands on review
planarTECH recently launched its 2AM graphene-enhanced face masks, in collaboration with IDEATI. The company (which is now in the last two days of its successful crowdfunding financing round in our Graphene Crowdfunding Arena) was kind enough to send us a few samples of the masks for a short hands-on review.
The face mask has a design that uses unique graphene and other carbon nanomaterials coatings that take advantage of graphene's antibacterial and antistatic properties. The coating has been certified by the Thailand Textile Institute to reduce staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) bacteria by 99.95% within a 24 hour period, and it also repels dust. The mask is washable and reusable (up to 10 times).
First Graphene and planarTECH sign supply deal for personal protective equipment
First Graphene (FGR) has entered into a two-year supply agreement with planarTECH to supply materials for the manufacture of personal protective equipment (PPE).
The companies reported that requirements of an initial testing phase have been met and planarTECH will now incorporate First Graphene's materials into the manufacture of protective masks.
First Graphene and Foster Plastics Industries to commence testing on EVA products
First Graphene (FGR) has reported that Foster Plastics Industries, an Australian extrusion company, is collaborating with FGR to develop PureGRAPH-enhanced ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) materials for use in Foster’s range of solar tubes and plastic extrusion systems.
The PureGRAPH 10 EVA masterbatch loaded with 30% graphene will be drawn down to the desired ultimate concentration of 0.25% to 1% within Foster’s proprietary black nitrile/PVC compound.
First Graphene and Hexcyl to collaborate on graphene-enhanced HDPE project
First Graphene has announced it is collaborating with Hexcyl to develop PureGRAPH enhanced HDPE materials for use in Hexcyl’s range of oyster baskets and long-line farming systems.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a thermoplastic polymer produced from the monomer ethylene. With a high strength-to-density ratio, HDPE is used in the production of plastic bottles, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes and plastic timbers. The incorporation of high-performing PureGRAPH additives will seek to improve the mechanical properties of the HDPE, while at the same time provide greater longevity of the systems in high energy farming environments.
