First Graphene secures Innovate UK funding for supercapacitor research
Last month, First Graphene (FGR) announced a milestone in its program to develop high performing supercapacitor materials. Now, the Company announced it has been awarded funding from Innovate UK EDGE to progress development work on its supercapacitor graphene hybrid materials with a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) based in the United Kingdom.
The Innovate EDGE fund supports high-growth small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to scale up and innovate, working alongside the UK’s RTO and Catapult Network. The Company will engage with world-leading experts at the Energy Innovation Centre based at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) part of the Catapult Network.
First Graphene announces milestone on supercapacitor materials
First Graphene (FGR) has announced that it has reached a milestone on its program to develop high performing supercapacitor materials. FGR’s recent work has been focused on the development of an optimized bill of materials for a supercapacitor to deliver high energy and power densities.
First Graphene has now announced that, in a standard test cell, its product PureGRAPH hybrid active materials outperform leading activated carbon materials over 100 cycles. The PureGRAPH materials have a specific capacitance of 140 farads per gram (f/g) while activated carbon cells typically have a specific capacitance of 35 f/g. FGR said this shows that PureGRAPH hybrid active materials can be formulated into an electrode slurry for use in device manufacture.
First Graphene signs collaboration agreement for graphene-enhanced HDPE products
First Graphene has entered into a collaboration agreement with Malaysia-based DSP, a specialist manufacturer of high density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet extrusions.
The collaboration will focus on the development of PureGRAPH-enhanced HDPE sheet and welding wire, providing an increase in durability and abrasion resistance.
First Graphene receives increased commitment from newGen Group
First Graphene (FGR) has announced that it has signed a Deed of Variation with newGen Group for the supply of its PureGRAPH product line for inclusion into the newGen ArmourGRAPH protective products for the mining industry.
newGen recently launched its ArmourGRAPH protective mining wear liners and elastomeric coatings, based on successful trials whereby a six-fold extension of wear protection was documented. Following successful trials, newGen has now moved to a production phase.
Graphene-enhanced pools by Aquatic Leisure Technologies hit the market
Aquatic Leisure Technologies (ALT) recently announced the world’s first commercial range of graphene-enhanced GFRP swimming pools. This follows June 2020's announcement of First Graphene (FGR) entering an agreement with Aquatic Leisure Technologies to supply PureGRAPH products for development of pool innovations.
Graphene Nano-Tech pools, which ALT claims are lighter, stronger and more durable than traditional GFRP pools, are manufactured using a process that combines graphene-infused resin with traditional GFRP fabrication.
First Graphene updates on commercial use of PureGRAPH
First Graphene (FGR) has provided an update on the progress of the commercial use of its pureGRAPH product line and the product launches from early adopters of its PureGRAPH products.
FGR shared that Aquatic Leisure Technologies (ALT) has used a PureGRAPH enhanced laminate system to develop a new range of swimming pools launched under Aqua Technics. The new graphene nano-tech pool range is said to provide multiple quality improvements with ALT upgrading equipment and processes to implement commercial-scale production. This means PureGraph will be standard in all new Aqua Technics pools.
AMD and First graphene to collaborate on development of graphene inks and coatings
Advanced Material Development (AMD) and First Graphene have agreed to collaborate on the ongoing development of AMD’s conductive inks and other graphene enabled coatings.
Under a binding memorandum of understanding (MoU), AMD will provide expertise in the design and development of functional nanomaterials and hierarchical assembly of material systems, while First Graphene delivers capabilities in the development, manufacture and supply of its graphene nanoplatelets, branded PureGraph.
First Graphene reports positive results from PureGRAPH wear line testing, enters MOU with Brazil's Gerdau
First Graphene has reported results from field testing of the PureGRAPH-enhanced bucket wear liner, which have reportedly shown an almost six times reduction in average abrasion loss compared with a standard polyurethane liner. The bucket wear liners were installed at a major iron ore producer’s load-out facility in the Pilbara of Western Australia, beginning in mid-2019. A standard wear liner and a graphene-enhanced ArmourGRAPH wear liner ran simultaneously in the same location for the 62-week period.
In addition, First Graphene has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Brazil’s largest steel producer, Gerdau. The MOU is currently non-binding, and allows for the two companies to negotiate terms towards a binding agreement, which would establish an initial commercial agreement for distribution and collaboration.
Cardea Bio Adds $6.5 Million to its Series A fund raise
Cardea Bio, Inc., U.S-based manufacturer of a biology-enabled transistor technology made from graphene-based biosensors, recently raised $6.5 Million in a series A extension that brings its A round total above $20M.
The new capital infusion is led by the life sciences and biotechnology focused investor 3E Bioventures Capital and joined by existing investors. Proceeds from the financing will be used to further develop Cardea’s proprietary Transistor platform, in order to significantly expand mass-manufacturing and further grow Cardea’s number of commercial partnerships.
A hands-on (foot-on) review of SpaceBlue's graphene-enhanced recycled rubber floor mat
A couple of months ago UK-based SpaceBlue launched a graphene-enhanced flooring product called SpaceMat. The company sent us a floor mat for review here at Graphene-Info.
Reviewing a floor mat isn't easy - there's not much to do with it, so we decided to use it in our home for a few months - and let nature and our family of six (plus a husky) do its thing. One of the promises of the SpaceMat is its enhanced durability, and we definitely put that to the test.
