Skeleton Technologies launches its SuperBattery and unveils Shell as partner
Skeleton Technologies has officially launched its SuperBattery, and unveiled Shell as its partner. Skeleton is joining a Shell-led consortium to offer electrification solutions for mining sites.
SuperBattery is an innovative technology combining the characteristics of supercapacitors and batteries. SuperBattery has been developed to serve the needs of several sectors and is currently being used and/or tested in hybrid and fuel cell EVs, buses, trucks, and charging infrastructure.
Talga to raise over USD$14,000,000
Talga Group has announced a fund raise of AUD$22 million (around USD $14,000,000). The raise was reportedly oversubscribed and was supported by a range of institutional investors. It will take Talga's pro forma cash position (before costs) at 30 September 2022 to A$27 million (around USD $17,255,000).
The Placement was jointly managed by Morgan Stanley Australia Securities Limited and Euroz Hartleys Limited, and supported by UK placing agent Longspur Capital Limited.
Sparc Technologies signs agreement with Queensland University of Technology for graphene-based battery materials
Sparc Technologies recently announced a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), that will support a long term partnership and commitment between the parties, affording Sparc the first right of refusal to commercialize technologies developed from projects Sparc undertakes with QUT. The agreement also provides a framework for long term cooperation whereby Sparc and QUT agree to work together to identify and undertake new projects.
Concurrent with signing the Strategic Partnership Agreement, Sparc has commenced a project with QUT to develop a process for the production of hard carbon using low cost sustainably sourced green bio-waste targeting the Sodium ion battery industry. The hard carbon materials will be characterized and tested in a Sodium ion cell format at QUT’s world-class facilities for battery development and testing, including the National Battery Testing Centre and Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF).
Anaphite raises over US$4.8 Million to further its graphene-enhanced batteries tech
UK-based startup Anaphite has announced the closing of a £4.1-million (around US$4.8 million) seed round, led by Elbow Beach Capital with a £1.5-million (US$1.8 million) investment and supported by Wealth Club, Blue Wire Capital, Oxford Investment Opportunity Network, Zero Carbon Capital, Silicon Roundabout Ventures and Deeptech Labs.
Anaphite incorporates graphene into battery materials, via an inexpensive and scalable process that fits directly into existing cell production lines. Anaphite mainly focuses on the enhancement of lithium-ion batteries for the electric vehicle industry, for which it aims to reduce battery manufacturing costs by over 10%. The company’s technology is also said to improve battery capacity and charge rates, potentially reducing charging time by 50%.
GMG announces phase 1 expansion project to graphene manufacturing facility
Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG) has announced that the it has taken a Final Investment Decision ("FID") on Phase 1 of its graphene manufacturing expansion project. The expansion project includes an executed 5 year lease to expand total office and warehouse space to 3,500 square meters, the next generation of the Company's proprietary graphene production technology with enhanced automation, a micro-grid with energy storage component to improve commercial and environmental electricity supply for the production process, and an infrastructure corridor to allow rapid scaling of further graphene manufacturing capacity during future phases of the graphene manufacturing expansion project.
The project will be managed and executed by the Company's engineers along with Wood engineering (the Company's graphene manufacturing scaling engineering service supplier).
Malaysia-based graphite and graphene producer Graphjet aims to list on the NASDAQ with a $1.5 billion valuation
Malaysia-based Graphjet Technology aims to list on the NASDAQ, with a projected valuation of $1.49 billion. The company has signed an agreement with Energem Corp (NASDAQ: ENCP), a special-purpose acquisition company that will merge with Graphjet.
Graphjet was established in 2019 in Malaysia. The company produces graphene and graphite from palm kernel shells (a common waste product from the production of palm seed oil). The company targets several applications, including batteries for EVs and power storage.
Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Graphene Technologies increases production capacity for graphene-enhanced batteries
Ceylon Graphene Technologies (CGT), a Sri Lanka based startup company, is expanding its graphene production capacity as graphene-enhanced industrial batteries are about to hit the market, according to a report from an official.
CGT is a joint venture between Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC), a research body backed by the government, and private partners (Colombo-based LOLC group owns 85 percent of CGT and SLINTEC 15 percent). CGT has developed a technology to convert vein graphite into graphene.

Appear's graphene battery packs can be fully charged in less than 60 minutes. Appear's latest battery cells offer higher capacity, increased safety and an industry-leading 3C fast charge capability.
Appear Graphene Li-Ion batteries are reportedly safer, offer fast charge (up to 3C) and have a longer cycle life (1000 cycles) than traditional Li-Ion batteries. The distinctive batteries also have higher discharge capacity (up to 15C), which enables bikes to have rapid acceleration, steep climb/higher torque and race mode in sport bikes.
Researchers use graphene nanobuds as a novel anode material for lithium ion batteries
Researchers from Tecnologico Nacional de México, McGill University and Centro de Investigacion en Materiales Avanzados S.C. have examined the use of Graphene nanobuds (GNBs), formed on copper (Cu) foil via chemical vapor deposition, as an anode in lithium-ion batteries.
Producing high-performance anode materials that possess excellent specific capacities and extended cyclic ability is currently one of the key development areas in lithium-ion batteries. The energy storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries heavily depends on the anode materials used and their structure. Carbonaceous substances remain the anode materials of choice because of the strong attraction between lithium (Li) and graphitic carbon. Graphene possesses a large capacity to accommodate lithium ions in its framework because of its significant surface area and excellent electrical conductivity.
Graphex Group announces plans IPO and $8 million raise
Graphex Group, which manufactures graphene products for lithium-ion batteries in China, has announced terms for its IPO On the US NYSE stock exchange. The company is currently listed on the Hong Kong Exchange (6128) and the OTCQX market (GRFXY). The Hong Kong-based company also stated plans to raise $8 million as part of the IPO.
Graphex manufactures natural spherical graphite and specialized graphite products that are used primarily in lithium-ion batteries, typically for electric vehicles and clean energy storage solutions. The company's graphene products operations are based in China and strategically located near a supply source of high-quality natural graphite. Graphex reports that it currently has approximately 30 customers in the PRC, primarily manufacturers of automotive batteries, conductive agents, refractory materials for the steel industry, and heat sink materials for precision electronics.
