Chinese graphene market tripled in 2015

Innova Research recently published a survey that states that the Chinese graphene market revenue for 2015 was estimated at $6.1 million, a 335.7% jump from $1.4 million for 2014.

The survey also specifies that significant progress has been made on the adoption of graphene in a number of industrial applications in 2015, namely touch screens, anti-corrosive coating, and lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). These adoptions are the primary reasons for the soaring Chinese graphene market revenue in 2015.

IDtechEx predicts that the graphene market will reach nearly $220 million by 2026

IDTechEx Research recently released a report that projects that the graphene market will grow to $220 million in 2026, a 10% growth from their former report that predicted that the graphene market will reach nearly $200 million by 2026. This forecast is at the material level and does not count the value of graphene-enabled products.

According to IDTechEx, a continual decline in average sales prices will accompany the revenue growth, meaning that volume sales will reach nearly 3.8 k tonnes per year in 2026. Despite this, IDTechEx forecasts suggest that the industry will remain in a state of over-capacity until 2021 beyond which time new capacity will need to be installed. Furthermore, IDTechEx Research forecasts that nearly 90% of the market value will go to graphene platelets (vs. sheets) in 2026.

Allied Market Research predicts that the world graphene market will Reach $151.4 Million By 2021

A new market report by Allied Market Research projects that the global sales of graphene would reach $151.4 million by 2021, and that the graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) segment will account for about two-thirds of the overall market revenue by that year. The energy storage application segment is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of 93.2% during the analysis period.

AMR foresees that heavy investment to improve production capacity and focus on strengthening R&D activities would lead to the development of novel and innovative products. Monolayer and bilayer graphene would emerge as lucrative segments, registering a CAGR of 41.5% during 2014 and 2021. The growth of this segment is attributed to its potential applications in electronics, energy storage, 3D printing, and other industries.

BCC Research sees a bright future for graphene

A recent BCC Research report predicts that between 2015 and 2025, the graphene market will achieve unprecedented growth rates through technological advancements, spotting increasing patent activity that suggests that technology trends are under way, ripening the market for explosive future growth.

BCC Research expects a commercially significant market for graphene products to develop between 2015 and 2020, when the market is projected to be worth more than $310.4 million. The graphene market will supposedly continue to grow rapidly after 2020, approaching $2 billion by 2025.

Deloitte & Touche sees a bright future for graphene, but it might take a while...

Deloitte and Touche presents its 2016 predictions and insights on the graphene market, and states that the graphene materials market in 2016 is likely to be in the low tens of millions of dollars (likely not to surpass $30 million). It also says that it may be decades before this material’s potential is fully realized: by the end of the decade material sales may still be a little more than $100 million, which represents growth, but also a continuation of the research phase.

D&T foresees that in 2016, and most likely in the decade to come, graphene will be in a research and prototyping phase. While products marketed as ‘graphene’ may be on the market in 2016, many will likely be constructed from other, more traditional materials, and contain a very limited quantity of graphene. However, research and development spending for the year is likely to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and in the medium term graphene may be incorporated into products worth many billions of dollars per year.

IDTechEx's analyst explains his views on the graphene market

Dr Khasha Ghaffarzadeh, IDTechExA few weeks ago we reported on a new IDTechEx market report, in which they predict that the graphene market will reach nearly $200 million by 2026, with the estimation that the largest sectors will be composites, energy applications and graphene coatings.

We were very interested in learning more, and Dr Khasha Ghaffarzadeh, IDTechEx's head of consulting was kind enough to answer a few questions and explain the company's view on the graphene market.

Q: IDTechEx has been following graphene for a long time with dedicated events and reports. Why is this new material interesting for IDTechEx?

We have a long track record of analyzing emerging advanced materials such as quantum dots, CNTs, Ag nanostructures, silicon nanostructures, OLED materials, etc. We were however pulled into the world of graphene by our clients’ questions. Once in, we soon realized that there is a big synergy between graphene and our events. in fact, our events on supercapacitors and printed electronics were the right near-term addressable market for graphene, and that is why we managed to rapidly build up the largest business-focused event on graphene. Our events on graphene are held in the USA and Europe each year see www.IDTechEx.com/usa.

Graphene market predicted to reach nearly $200 million by 2026

A recent IDTechEx research predicts that the graphene market will reach nearly $200 million by 2026, with the estimation that the largest sectors will be composites, energy applications and graphene coatings.

Graphene inks are said to be constantly improving (while their prices seem to be dropping), which might promote, among others, applications like sensor electrodes and smart packaging. In the transparent conductive film industry, however, it is estimated that graphene will not be able to compete with ITO films.
